The Matthias Family > One evening, we invited our friend, Sergei over to our home to play games. Sergei is the librarian and a student at Kyiv Theological Seminary, (where many of our SEND missionaries teach). He and Mark also meet weekly for English/Russian conversation practice. We had a fun time playing Uno and laughing together! But of course, as Caleb always says.....Sergei always wins!
The Matthias Family > We also received our first invitation to a "Royal Banquet." Our good friends, the Gupta family, were celebrating their daughter's birthday in a fun and unique way. So we took our jewels, crowns and gowns out of the vault (aka, the "dress-up bin") and with some creativity, glue and glitter were prepared to attend the banquet.
The Matthias Family > Our family posing (in the bright sun) near a fountain in downtown Odessa.
The Matthias Family > One day, while Monica was recuperating from her disc surgery, just for fun, Mark took the kids out to McDonalds and the park.
The Matthias Family > Here is our family dressed up for Easter Sunday! Caleb just loved his dress shirt and tie! He didn't even want to take it off at the end of the day.
The Matthias Family > At the beginning of the month, our family went "ice skating" at our nearby mall. It is not real ice, but a plastic surface which is similar to ice.
The Matthias Family > We received a HUGE box of gifts from some of our supporters back in America. Many people worked together to get all the gifts collected and shipped to Kiev. After worrying for many days that we would not receive it in time, God answered our prayer and it arrived on Christmas Day! God's timing is always perfect!!
The Matthias Family > We enjoyed a Christmas Eve lunch with the Rossi family at our home. We had ham, mashed potatoes, green beans. Sharing a traditional meal with close friends finally made it feel like Christmas!
The Matthias Family > Early in the month of August, our family visited the National Historical Museum of Ukraine and enjoyed seeing and learning from displays highlighting all sorts of mammals, fossils and animal life. Here Monica and the children stand in front of the skeleton of a mammoth.
