The Matthias Family > While visiting the city of Hamelin, we enjoyed a dramatization of the famouse story of the Pied Pieper.
The Matthias Family > We also spent a few hours visiting the city of Hannover and found a bookstore bearing our family name.
The Matthias Family > Following the SEND conference, our good friends, Steve and Diane Hayen, took us on a 5-day trip to different cities in Germany. They lived there many years ago when Steve was stationed there in the Army. It was such a wonderful time for our family and we all enjoyed seeing so many wonderful sights!

The Matthias Family > We spent two nights in a wonderful guesthouse (think Bed and Breakfast) in Valwig, near Cochem. Although she didn't speak any English (or Russian, either.:) ) she was so very friendly and made a wonderful breakfast! Our last night there, we met her son who owns and cooks at a the family's restaurant attached to his mother's home (seen above). It was especially interesting as we later discovered that this man's wife was from Poland and spoke Russian! Also, he had been to Ukraine many years before and had brought back a cutting from a grapevine which has grown to cover the entrance to the restaurant. Sometimes the world truly seems smaller than it is!
The Matthias Family > Following the beautiful view of the city of Cochem, Germany. We enjoyed walking along the river and visiting many of the shops downtown.
