The Matthias Family > This is the kitchen where the men in the program meet each morning to begin their day with encouragment and prayer. After breakfast and a Bible study time together, each one goes off to work in the nearby village or spends the day on repairs around the rehab center.

Also pictured is Mark's new friend, Anthony Adams (left), a pastor from the U.K., who was also visiting the rehab center. In addition to his pastoral duties, Anthony also works on staff with Radstock Ministries which works to further missions work around the world by linking local churches with resources with the churches and ministries which need them. The Matthias Family > Mark joined with Pastor Volodiya to visit the drug rehab center started 4 months ago by his church. These men are living here in the village of Skrepchen, about an hour outside of Kyiv. Here they pray together, study God's Word together and support each other as they work to overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol. They learn to depend on each other and on the Lord. They also learn to value and enjoy work rather than steal and spend their time and money on drugs. The center currently has 8 men living there, but when the renovations are complete, they will be able to house as many as 12 men.

Please pray for these men as they grow in their faith and as their lives reflect God's healing and the Holy Spirit's work in their lives.
The Matthias Family > This is Nazar, a wonderful example of the purpose and potential of the drug rehab center in XXXXX. Nazar is from Uzbekistan and moved to Ukraine 15 years ago. He has been an addict for many years and first heard about Jesus from the chaplain while in prison. As we talked with him, he explained how his view of the world has changed since he has begun his new spiritual journey with God. Another man in the program told us how his countenance has changed dramatically since he first arrived at the program 3 weeks ago. I could clearly see the light and joy reflected in his face as he expressed his new-found joy for living. He continually used his limited English to say again and again, "my friend!!"

Please pray for Nazar, that he would remain sober and drug-free. Please pray that he will continue to trust in the Lord for strength and that he will grow in his walk with Christ.
The Matthias Family > The building and grounds were in terrible shape when they purchased the property for the Rehab Center only 4 months ago, and the men are working hard to complete the remodeling before the cold of winter arrives. They have already installed new windows but will also need to add insulation and complete bricking in the outside wall.
The Matthias Family > This is a typical bedroom for the men living there. They live simply but this enables them to focus on growing in their faith and recovering from their addictions.
The Matthias Family > Pictured here are Pastor Volodiya of Grace church (just outside of Kyiv) and Vova, director of the drug rehap center (left). Volodiya's church is 5 years old and has approximately 150 people in the congregation, but established this rehab program 4 months ago and has just planted a daughter church not far from our home.

Grace church is an exciting church, composed mostly of new believers who have come to faith as adults, and who are passionate about their faith. Both of these factors result in a church body which particpates in small groups and which actively reaches out to non-believers in their community.
