The Matthias Family  > Other > June '08
After getting settled into our new home in Indiana last month, we continued to re-adjust to American culture by doing a variety of things typically American, such as visiting the zoo, children's museum and the American Girl Place, celebrating Father's Day and buying treats from the ice cream truck. On the other hand, some things were much more unique like shaving off someone's hair and enjoying sparklers (in June!).

The Matthias Family > Although our 15th Anniversary was actually on May 29th, we celebrated our anniversary by spending a few days in Lake Geneva, WI. Here we are enjoying a wonderful, relaxing lunch at the hotel's restaurant.
The Matthias Family > Caleb and Corrie had a great time reuniting with some of their best friends in America, Luke and Britanny, spending a day at the Brookfield Zoo.
The Matthias Family > Corrie Mae and her friend, Britanny at the American Girl Place in downtown Chicago, where they attended a performance at the American Girl Theatre.
The Matthias Family > Caleb ready for some serious construction at the Children's Museum at Navy Pier in downtown Chicago.
The Matthias Family > For the first time ever, Corrie Mae and Caleb buy ice cream from the truck that dailiy visits our neighborhood. This certainly never happened in Ukriane!
The Matthias Family > Since Mark's sister Laura's hair began to fall out a few weeks after beginning chemotherapy, she decided she wanted it all shaved off. I was a little nervous about it, but Laura trusted me and it all turned out (or came off) just fine!
The Matthias Family > Monica's parents and her sister's family joined us in our new home for Fathers Day. Caleb, Corrie and Caitlin are watching as their Grandpa opens his gift.
The Matthias Family > Our family enjoyed a fun visit with our missionary friends from Ukraine, the Rist family, as they passed through the Chicago area on the way to raise support by visiting people and churches around the country. Here, Mark and Andy bask in the sun, discussing various world issues, church history and theories of church-planting strategies.... not really. ;)
The Matthias Family > It was a few days early, ok maybe a few weeks, but the kids had a great time celebrating the upcoming Fourth of July with some fireworks. Although they were excited about the incredible explosive possibilities available for purchase here in Indiana, Mark and Andy restrained their enthusiasm and did not buy any pyrotechnics which could injure the children or the damage the surrounding homes. Here, Corrie Mae and her friend, Abigail Rist enjoy simple sparklers together.
